Searching for MediaHere is a quick guide on how to search the BCC catalog for media materials:Go to the LMC Webpage and find the Library Catalogs link. Click on the link that reads "BCC Library Catalog." Looking for materials by Topic: When looking for media materials, the first thing you want to do is change the "Quick Limit" to the video collection. This will exclude books from your search. Make sure that "Keyword Anywhere" search is highlighted and type your topic into the search box. For videos, as long as you limit to the video collection, a keyword search should meet your needs. Looking for materials by Title: This is illustrated in the following image. Change the "Quick Limit" to video collection as you did for a topic search. Next, make sure the "Title" Search is highlighted. This will tell the catalog that you are only interested in items with a particular title. Title search works best when you know the exact title of the video you are looking for. |
Searching for Movies (Feature Films): Use the video collection "Quick Limit" as above, but change your search type to "Subject Begins With." Type "Feature Films" into the search box. You will find a list of over 300 films and movies that are part of the Library Media Center's main collection. Remember that this search will only find feature films. It won't find documentaries or other videos that we have in the collection. Searching for Media Reserve items: If your instructor has items on reserve, you can easily find them by searching the library catalog. There are two ways to search for reserve items. One way to search is by clicking on the "Course Reserve Search" tab and look for materials by your instructor name or class name. Another way to search is demonstrated below. Note that we have changed the "Quick Limit" to "None." Highlight "Call Number" as the type of search that you want to do. In the search box, type "mres"; followed by your instructor's last name (example: mres lucas). This will tell the catalog that you want media reserve (mres) items for Lucas.
